| Preserving A Rich Heritage
Now, after more than 100 years of immigration,
assimilation, and growth in the United States and in Houston,
Arab-Americans will have a place where their culture, art, and language
can be preserved and carried on for generations yet to come. The new ACC
is a facility where they can gather to celebrate holidays and festive occasions
among relatives and friends, as well as a place where their children can
play and learn about the Arab people's impressive history and heritage.
On 13 acres of land, near I-59 and
Beltway 8 (Sam Houston Toll way) in Southwest Houston, only 15 minutes from the Galleria, a
cultural and community center was developed to serve the needs of Arab-Americans and the general
community of Houston. ACC is non-profit, non-sectarian and non-political. The new center will serve as
our contribution to the community at large to use and enjoy in grateful
thanks for all that we have received from this country.
Why in Houston?
Over the past few decades, Houston has developed into the fourth
largest city in the United States. Mirroring that growth has been
the vibrant Arab-American community, which in the same time period has
grown from only few hundreds to approximately 65,000 strong. |
Rising to prominence in many areas of business and daily
life-from commerce and trade to education, medicine and professional
services-these first-, second- and third-generation Arab-Americans, as
well as a continuing flow of new immigrants, have helped establish Houston
as a major American city for Arabs to live and do business. Now in
addition to our contribution and service to the community in many forms of
commerce, medicine, arts and literature, Arab-Americans have established a
facility that will benefit not only our people but the population of the
whole city.
Activities abound on the grounds and in the new Center. |
